Jay Key

For the second time this season, South Arkansas forward Jay Key has been selected as the Region 2 Player of the Week for NJCAA Division II.

Key, of Dubach, Louisiana, was selected for performances in the week ending on Jan. 19. Over a three-game stretch, during which SouthArk went 2-1, the sophomore averaged 28 points a game, which included a 40-point performance against North Arkansas College in a loss. It marked the second game this season in which Key has eclipsed 40 points. Through the week, Key shot 60 percent from the field, including 50 percent from the three-point line, and connected on 79 percent of his free throws.

The Star has separated himself as one of the best JUCO Division II players in the nation this season. His 23 points-per-game average is 12th best in the nation, and tops Region 2. Teammate Lavion Owens, a freshman forward, is second in the region in scoring with 18.5 points per game, and second in the nation in rebounding, with 11.5 per game.
